Lost in Trans Nation By Miriam Grossman: Chapter 1: John Money’s Dangerous Idea

Chapter 1: John Money’s Dangerous Idea

Gender Identity Disorder (GID) was incredibly rare

-35 years later mental health facilities are overflowing with kids unhappy with their sexed bodies and their parents

-young patients who have anxiety, autism, depression, and other disorders certain the solution to their woes is a deeper voice and flat chest, or boobs and soft skin

-young patients yearning to transition to the opposite sex

-groups of friends taking hormones to alter their bodies

-youth binge watching YouTube videos, influencers, TikTok, etc…their favorite synthetic opposite-sex personae

-influencers answer the question, “How do I know I am trans?

“If you think you may be trans, you probably are.”

-in 1989, London had the world’s largest gender clinic for minors serving the entire United Kingdom

-1st decade saw an average of 14 patients a year

-by 2021-2022 that number increased to 3,585 a year with a waiting list of 5,300

Gender Ideology:

-has become a powerful social-political movement

-it has taken over the medical, educational, governmental institutions

-it has taken over language and compelled speech

-bombarded 24/7 with its lexicon and symbols

Ex. gender neutral names, pronouns, nonbinary, gender-fluid, gender-queer, ambiguous rainbows on buildings, clothing, cereal boxes, tampon machines in boys bathrooms, drag queen shows for toddlers, and honored at the White House

History: How did all this happen? John Money

-studied psychology at Harvard

-1952, Money wrote his doctoral thesis about hermaphroditism

-a very rare medical condition in one in 5,000 births

-Money was fascinated with these newborn’s genitals as ambiguous: not clearly male or female

-1957, Money’s theory wasn’t about hermaphroditism, but in humanity

-Money believed chromosomes and anatomy were irrelevant

-Money believed male or female identities were just a “social construct”

***Coined the term: gender identity

Money: Gender

-he proposed the existence of a psychological sex, separate and more consequential than the body’s sex

-he named the the psychological sex = “gender”

-he claimed infants are blank slates when they are born

-infants have no predisposition to think, feel, or behave in a masculine or feminine manner

-sex was determined by nature, but gender is determined by nurture

-sex and gender are two different things

***masculinity and femininity are man-made social constructs imposed on children without basis for them in biology

-why couldn’t a boy be raised as a girl or a girl raised as a boy

***this means that reassignment of a child’s sex would necessitate reproductive organs on hormones his entire life

***Money declared that all humans are psychological hermaphrodites at birth with the potential of being male or female

Money wrote, “I suffered from the guilt of being male. I wore the mark of a man’s vile sexuality. I wondered if the world might really be a better place for women if not only farm animals, but human males also were gelded at birth.”

-his theory provided a solution to his inner conflict: anatomy doesn’t count

-dismiss biology and be free of the terrible burden of being male

-he had an irrational fear and hatred of biology

-his invention of psychological sex untethered to chromosome and genitals is consistent with his deep-seated biphobia

Money: disciple of Alfred Kinsey

-Kinsey is one of history’ most deviant public personalities that campaigned against traditional sexual morality

***Money argued that “all forms of consensual sexuality are good, or at least neutral; problems arise not from sex but from guilt, fear, and repression.”

-gender activists grasped the power of language to influence how we think

-replacing psychiatric terms: “perversion” to “paraphilia”

-changing the language makes it less prejudicial and judgmental

Education:

-Sexual Information and Education Council of the United State brought to sex education classes the Sexual attitude reassessment (SAR)

-sexually explicit material (i.e. pornography) be used for educational purposes

-Money filmed couples having sex

-in the 1970’s he took those films and devised lectures for medical students

-describes unusual sexual behaviors

1971: Money introduced his films to Johns Hopkins Medical School curriculum

-explicit photographs of people engaged in bestiality, urine-drinking, feces-eating, and various amputation fetishes, and orgies

-Money’s  immorality extended to children

-he publicly endorsed pedophilia and incest

-calling it, “a love-affair between age-discrepant couples.”

***he claimed that from an early age, children must be exposed to explicit  images in order to understand the difference between male and female sex organs

-like Kinsey, Money was a degenerate, disturbed man

-like Kinsey, Money crusaded to rid society of repressive Judeo-Christian taboos

-Money aggressively promoted his gender theory

The story of the twins

-In, 1965 a book “As Nature Made Him: The Boy Who Was Raised as a Girl,” by John Colapinto

-twins born in Winnipeg, Canada (Bruce & Brian)

-in an accident during circumcision, Bruce’s penis was burned beyond repair

-Money saw the twins when they reached 2 years old

-Money used the tragedy to promote his theory by convincing the couple to raise Bruce as a female

-Money used this family to prove theory to the world

-Bruce became the 1at child to have sex reassignment surgery

-In 1972, Money proclaimed that a normal male infant had been raised as a girl and the experiment was a resounding success.

-Money published a book, “Man and Woman, Boy and Girl.”

-the twin’s story became a landmark case  and brought John Money fame and fortune

***Money only promoted sex reassignment surgery as the sole option for underdeveloped genitals in children

-parents of sons with underdeveloped genitalia were advised to castrate and raise them as girls

-in 1974, Money published “Sexual Signatures” repeating that the twin’s experiment was a total success

-he called Bruce’s transformation into Brenda a “metamorphosis” claiming the twins and the parents were content with outcomes

-in 1997, Bruce to Brenda to David went public that the whole experiment had been a complete failure

-Bruce never transitioned into a content female

-Bruce hit puberty and was on all hormones to make him Brenda

-Bruce never felt female nor did his body and his mental health plummeted

-in 1980, Bruce was finally told the truth that he was actually born a girl and was told about the decisions the family made under the care of John Money

-Bruce, Brenda, and now David was relieved he was not crazy

-David tried to fight against Money using his name as a successful trans story

-David and his parents did a public television interview to dispute Money’s claims

-They revealed that Money had sexually abused both twins

-Brian overdosed at age thirty-two

-Now David, Bruce committed suicide at age thirty-eight

-Money had exploited and ultimately destroyed a family to further his ideology

-David was not born gender neutral and he never felt like a girl

-the experiment truly proved that David’s biology dictated his identity

-failed: being socialized as his told female psychological sex

-proven: David’s biology dictated his identity

-proven: his “gender identity” was consistent with his chromosomes

***Doctors and Academics should have completely rejected gender theory, but instead they adopted and supported the social movement we see today

-in 1987, Money was honored as a scientist for “infant sexual reassignment surgery was one of his most important clinical contributions to medical science”

-in 2007, Money died but his legacy mutated and is still celebrated by academics, physicians, and mental health professionals as a public supporter of pedophilia and incest
