Patriot Academy Notes 1: What is the law of nature and nature of God?

What is the law of nature and nature of God?

"Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness."

The American Founders recognized the “Law of Nature and Nature's God,” the universal moral law of mankind, in the United States' Declaration of Independence as the moral and legal basis for creating a new, independent nation. For this law served as the foundation of man's natural rights and the limits of earthly power.

The Declaration of Independence was a reflection that the American natural rights republic was rooted in natural law. Reason and divine revelation supported the natural law that shaped a good government built upon the understanding of human nature and the rights given to humans by God.

What does the Bible say about the law of nature?

Paul points out that this moral law written on the human heart is given by the Creator God to mankind in nature and is validated by a person's innate moral sense and reason. The Law of Nature was affirmed by God-oriented medieval and modern thinkers who recognized and cited Paul's description in Romans 2.

Bible:

-calls us to be good stewards

-calls us to maintain Biblical citizenship

-calls us to invest in freedom

-calls us to do your duty = vote

-true Christians can’t separate Jesus’ Great Commission to the church

Is there a difference:

-Politics is how to treat each other (legislates behavior)

-Christianity is that you treat others how you want to be treated (2nd greatest commandment-comes from the

Holy Spirit)

“All the miseries and evils which men suffer from vice, crime, ambition, injustice, oppression, slavery and war,

proceed from their despising or neglecting the precepts contained in the Bible” (Noah Webster).

“Freedom cannot be exported to a nation that has no marketplace for the Gospel where the spirit of the Lord is,

there is liberty” (David Chilton).

Jesus didn’t command us to sit around getting crushed by Satan waiting to die.

God’s truth is called “hate speech”

Lukewarm Christian

-tolerance of the generations before us has led to subversive takeover of every facet of society and even the

faith by the global elite

Purpose of government from a Christian’s perspective

-is to preserve and protect the Christian understanding of civilization known as Christendom

-Proverbs 8:15

“By me kings reign and rulers issue decrees that are just”

-Daniel 2: 21

“He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and

knowledge to the discerning.”

-Daniel 4:17

“The decision is announced by messengers, the holy ones declare the verdict, so that the living may know

that the Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes and sets over

them the lowliest of people.”

-Romans 13: 11-14

“And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber,

because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here.

So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime,

not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.

Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of

the flesh.”
