The state of Nevada has passed the law that hands free devices must be used while driving.  The law is currently in force with warnings to drivers and fines will begin in January.  I guess it doesn’t matter to people as I see many drivers daily still using their cell phones, talking and texting.  Come on people there is nothing that important that you must continue to talk and text while driving.  If you have that important call then pull over to a safe place (not on the freeway) and park, then continue your conversation.  I think it is funny watching people who use the speaker phone while driving.  Hey mormons, using the speaker phone while the phone is still in your hand is NOT hands free.

It is not just drivers who are rude and obnoxious with cell phones.  Yesterday I was getting my car services, seemed everyone was on their phone doing something.  Yes, even I was reading emails. When in public have some decency and turn down the volume on your phones.  Between the clicking of the keyboard while typing or the loud conversations people have when using the phone it’s annoying and rude to others.  There was a guy who decided to prop his cell phone on the counter and start watching Beavis and Butthead.  I really was not interested in listening to that stupid show and he is a butthead.  Then there was the guy who’s phone was going off which seemed like every 60 seconds and to top it off it was theme “COPS”.  I don’t care if you think you are a bad boy but please turn the ringer down.  It almost made me into a bad boy who wanted to take that phone and toss it out into traffic.

There was one guy who was kind enough to walk outside the waiting room to make his call.  Unfortunately with his speaker phone full blast and his voice projecting as if he were talking to someone in another state, made it yet another round of rude and obnoxious.  Why are people so compelled to talk with such a loud voice while on their cell phones?  Come on people the technology is better today and you do not need to yell!

Push to talk technology is great for construction jobs, but should not be allowed for public use.  I can’t tell you how many times I have been having lunch and had to listen to conversations.  Seems most of the time these conversations are in spanish.  Two strikes to these people, first if you are going to have a conversation then turn off the damn speaker and use the phone where I don’t have to listen to both sides of the conversation.  Second, speak English!  I don’t mind anyone talking in their native tongue but when in public or working in the establishment be considerate and speak English.

If you cell phone is that important to you and you must use it 24/7 here are a few tips.

1. If you are in a public place.  Do not use speaker phone and speak with a normal low volume.

2. If you must use your phone while driving.  Use hands free device and remember you are behind the wheel of a vehicle.

3. Push to talk.  Get rid of it and use the damn phone in a normal manner.

4. Ring tones.  I don’t care how cool your ring tone is, if you are in a public place turn the volume down or set the phone on vibrate.

If you are unwilling or unable to follow some simple rules then may I suggest you turn your phone off.  After turning the phone off removed the battery, put the phone back in the box and return it to the place you purchased it.
