DDF Rolls out the Sushi
Valentine’s Day is full of fluffy bears, flowers, jewelry, and chocolate…how boring and not for us as a couple. We like thinking out of the box, so for this holiday of love we are going to buy the equipment and learn how to make sushi at home. It is so important for us to connect, have fun, research, learn, and enjoy the result of our time together. So here is our chronicle of our road to learning how to make delicious Sushi.
Our first step was to research books on “How to make Sushi,” so off to Barnes & Noble, Borders, and Amazon. We found an excellent book expertly titled “Sushi for Dummies.” Borders too expensive @ $16.99, but close price between B&N and Amazon. We chose Amazon since we got free shipping. This is what we have learned:
1. Sushi is vinegared rice with topping. We thought it was about the seafood, but it is all about the rice.
2. There are 3 chapters just about rice, so can we make rice with a beautiful sheen and divine chewy texture.
3. Never thought we would use a fan to cool off rice.
4. Japanese knives are really expensive. We are thinking German knives, ironically for Japanese dish.
5. Learning to pronounce the words in Japanese can make you laugh and by the way Sushi should not be pronounced with a “S” sound as the first letter but a “Z” like Zushi.
Okay, enough for tonights adventure. Next time we will be purchasing equipment for our new path to making Zushi.
