Garth Brooks @ The Wynn in Las Vegas
We had no idea what to expect when entering the Wynn Encore theater, but it was worth the wait. Garth was famous for his electric personality, high energy, and showmanship; so when we took our seats it was interesting to see a lone guitar, stool and two bottles of water. That was it. The rest of the small stage was empty.
By 7:50 the theater was packed and the lights dimmed as the voice of Mr. Wynn explained that no cameras or video devices were allowed. It was hard not to take pics, especially since Garth walked on stage dressed like he had just stepped off a tractor. He had a couple of costume changes where he turned his hat backwards and then forwards. It was very funny. He was extremely funny along with personable and heart felt.
The show was a combination of humorous story telling, history of music, and classic Garth vocals. He walked us through his life and love of music while explaining what influenced his style of music. His father was a Jones and Haggard fan which is where the humorous side of Garth’s life stories inter-weaved with examples of his talented vocals as he sang about the themes of prison and love so bad that the only escape was death.
Garth then led us through the 60′s, 70′s and 80′s where he played a variety of influential songs along with stories of his family, on the road, and experiences that led his career and to his beautiful wife, Trisha Yearwood. When she walked out on stage the whole theater stood up and clapped. She was not all dressed up, but came on stage in jeans. The only thing glittery on her was her sparkly shoes and then the light hit her ring just right. They sang in harmony with such passion that the whole crowd erupted as they stood to applaud. They joked on stage and it just seemed like we were sitting on their porch having a drink telling tales and participating in a sing-a-long.
If you thought Garth connected with his audience when he was jumping all over the stage with his band then you are definitely in for a treat because this was so much better. We all left that theater knowing so much more about Garth Brooks as an artist, family man, friend, and overall great guy.
All we have to say is the man is vocally talented…hilarious….and worth seeing in such an intimate setting.
